VATICAN CITY – Pope Francis remains hospitalized at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital due to a persistent polymicrobial respiratory infection, according to a Holy See Press Office update on Monday, February 17, 2025. His treatment has been adjusted to address the evolving condition, and his hospitalization will continue as needed.
As a result, the Pope’s General Audience this week has been canceled. Despite his illness, Vatican spokesperson Matteo Bruni confirmed that the Pope remains in good spirits.
While in the hospital, Pope Francis has continued his daily check-ins with the Holy Family Parish in Gaza, led by Fr. Gabriel Romanelli. Even during a blackout in Gaza City, the Pope managed to connect via video call to offer his support and blessing. On Sunday, he sent a written message expressing gratitude for their prayers and reaffirming his solidarity with the parishioners.
Fr. Romanelli shared that although the Pope sounds more fatigued, he remains engaged and attentive. The parish and many around the world continue to pray for his swift recovery, hoping he will soon resume his mission at the Vatican.
