Vatican Secretary of State Welcomes Polish President for Key Anniversary Talks

Vatican City, March 29, 2025 – Polish President Andrzej Duda met with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin on Friday morning, marking a significant visit in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Pope St. John Paul II’s passing and the approaching millennium of Poland’s first king’s coronation.

The meeting, held in the Apostolic Palace, included discussions on various matters of mutual interest, with a particular focus on international affairs. The Holy See Press Office highlighted the topics covered, including the ongoing war in Ukraine and broader concerns about security and peace in Europe. Monsignor Miroslaw Wachowski, Undersecretary for Relations with States, was also present during the diplomatic exchange.

President Duda’s visit to the Vatican began on Thursday, when he undertook a jubilee pilgrimage to the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica. Accompanied by First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda, he prayed at the tomb of St. John Paul II and placed a floral tribute in honor of the Polish pontiff. The Polish delegation also included Ambassador Adam Kwiatkowski and other officials.

The visit underscores the deep historical and spiritual ties between Poland and the Vatican, as well as ongoing collaboration on global humanitarian and security issues.
