ROME— Pope Francis’ health condition has shown “further slight improvement” over the last day, according to an update from the Holy See Press Office on Wednesday evening, Rome time.
A chest CT scan conducted at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on Tuesday indicated “a normal evolution of the pulmonary inflammatory picture,” while mild kidney failure, previously observed, “has receded.”
Although the pope continues to receive “high-flow oxygen therapy,” the Vatican assured that he has not experienced any respiratory crises.
“While registering a slight improvement, the prognosis remains reserved,” the Holy See Press Office stated.
Despite his ongoing health challenges, Pope Francis received the Eucharist in the morning and spent the afternoon engaged in work activities, according to the statement.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Holy See Press Office reported that Pope Francis had a “quiet night” at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, as his condition remained critical but stable while undergoing treatment for double pneumonia.
“The pope had a quiet night and is resting,” the Holy See Press Office told journalists in the morning update.
The Tuesday evening health bulletin reiterated that the pope’s “clinical condition remains critical but stable,” with no acute respiratory episodes and stable hemodynamic parameters.
“In the evening, he underwent a scheduled CT scan to radiologically monitor the bilateral pneumonia,” the statement read.
Since Pope Francis was admitted to the Agostino Gemelli Hospital on Friday, February 14, following a bout of bronchitis, the Vatican has provided twice-daily health updates to keep the faithful informed about his condition.
The 88-year-old pontiff is receiving treatment for double pneumonia, and previous reports indicated mild renal insufficiency, which now appears to be under control.
Cardinal Parolin Leads Prayers for Pope’s Recovery
As Pope Francis remains hospitalized, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin led the faithful in praying the Rosary for the Holy Father in St. Peter’s Square on Monday evening, February 24.
The Vatican has encouraged Catholics worldwide to join in prayer for the pope’s full recovery.
