Manila, Philippines — A historic celebration awaits the Diocese of Pagadian in southern Philippines as it prepares for the episcopal ordination and installation of its new bishop, Ronald Anthony Timoner.
Bishop-elect Timoner will be ordained and installed as the sixth bishop of Pagadian on August 13, 2025, in a solemn liturgy at the Sto. Niño Cathedral in Pagadian City.
“Join us in prayer and celebration,” the diocese announced in a social media post. “Let us witness this blessed moment of grace for our diocese.” The post added, “As we prepare for Bishop-elect Ronald Anthony Timoner’s ordination and installation, we trust in God’s beautiful unfolding plan for our diocese.”
Pope Francis appointed Timoner, a priest from the Diocese of Daet in Camarines Norte, as the new bishop of Pagadian on April 2, 2025.
His appointment fills the vacancy left by the late Bishop Ronald Lunas, who passed away in January 2024. In the interim, Archbishop Martin Jumoad of Ozamiz has overseen the diocese as apostolic administrator during the “sede vacante” period.
Timoner, 53, has been serving as the diocesan administrator of Daet since May 2024. His appointment follows shortly after Bishop-elect Herman Abcede was named the new bishop of Daet.
A photo released by the Diocese of Pagadian captured a meeting between Archbishop Jumoad and Bishop-elect Timoner at the CBCP headquarters in Intramuros, Manila, on April 9, 2025, marking an important moment of transition and unity.
