Our story

The Province Commission on the Social Apostolate embodies the Jesuit tradition of walking with those on the margins and working toward a more just and compassionate world. Our journey began with a profound call to live out the mission of Christ, responding to the realities of social injustice, poverty, and environmental degradation through concrete action and advocacy.

Grounded in the Ignatian principle of finding God in all things, we bring together Jesuit ministries, lay collaborators, and communities to address the urgent social issues of our time. Our story is one of collaboration and courage—of taking bold steps to create programs and initiatives that promote human dignity, peace, and the care of our common home.

From grassroots initiatives to global advocacy, we strive to serve as a bridge between faith and action, offering hope and solidarity to those in need. This is not just our story—it is a shared mission, continually evolving as we listen to the cries of the poor and discern God’s call in every challenge we face.

Our approach

At the Province Commission on the Social Apostolate, our approach is deeply rooted in Ignatian spirituality and the Jesuit mission of integrating faith and justice. We follow a holistic and collaborative model that seeks to discern, accompany, and act in response to the complex social realities of our time.

  1. Discernment in Action
Guided by the Ignatian principle of discernment, we take the time to prayerfully reflect on the needs of communities and the signs of the times. Through careful analysis and dialogue, we ensure that our actions are rooted in Gospel values and aligned with God’s will.
  2. Walking with the Marginalized
Inspired by the Universal Apostolic Preferences of the Society of Jesus, we prioritize accompanying the poor, the excluded, and those whose dignity is denied. Our approach is relational and compassionate, fostering solidarity rather than charity alone.
  3. Collaboration and Partnership
Recognizing that we are stronger together, we work in partnership with Jesuit institutions, local parishes, NGOs, and lay communities. By fostering networks of collaboration, we amplify our impact and build sustainable solutions to social challenges.
  4. Advocacy and Communication
We leverage our communication platforms to amplify voices from the margins, promote awareness, and advocate for systemic change. Through storytelling, campaigns, and education, we engage diverse audiences and inspire collective action.
  5. Integral Ecology
Embracing Pope Francis’ call in Laudato Si’, we approach our mission with a commitment to care for our common home, integrating social and environmental justice in all our efforts.

This dynamic and faith-filled approach enables us to respond effectively to the ever-evolving challenges of our world while staying anchored in the Jesuit vision of serving God through justice and love.

“Work is more than a mere doing; it is, above all, a mission.”
— Pope Francis (General Audience, April 2020)
